13.10.2017- Playing with Smart Textiles

This afternoon we were visited by Lucy Robertson, a PhD researcher here at Duncan of Jordanstone who is exploring sonic textiles. She began her talk by showing us a variety of different materials and their uses. Examples included:

  • Heat-changing hair dye
  • Jacquard by Google
  • Squid London hydrochromics
  • Cutecircuit kinetic dress
  • Photochromic ink books
  • Studio Rozengaart dome

Afterwards, Lucy kindly showed us samples of her own work that showed the materials in context. Here are a few video clips demonstrating Lucy's work in action:

I was left feeling pretty inspired after spending sometime playing with the samples. It got me thinking about my own project and how some of these materials and technologies can be used to bring my story to life.
